The founder and editor of 2600 -Hacker Quarterly.
Born in 1961 (Eric Corley) AKA “Emmanuel Goldstein” adopted from “1984″ by George Orwell. Graduated with a B.A. in English from New York State at Stony Brook. Resides in an old Victorian mansion in Setauket, New York.
Goldstein published the first 2600: The Hacker Quarterly in January 1984. The name itself 2600 is early 1970s exploit of phone phreaks. 2600Hz tone was used to fool phone switches to allow free phone calls from pay phones. 2600 has grown over the years and has a subscriber list in upwards of 4+ thousand. Anyone interested in new exploits, computer security, hacking, phreaking, and technology as a whole will enjoy this zine. In fact its been recorded that 2600 has 60+ thousand readers.
Interested in Radio as well Goldstein hosted radio call in shows during college. He now hosts a weekly show for WBAI 99.5 FM in New York City named “Off the Hook”.
If he wasnt busy enough he has also organized four hacker conventions you might recognize, Hackers on Planet Earth (HOPE) in 1994, Beyond HOPE in 1997, H2K in 2000, and H2K2 in 2002. At these conventions you listen to lectures about the hacker culture, computer security, encryption technology, etc.
