Robert Tappan Morris

He was the first person to be prosecuted under the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.



Morris is currently working as a tenured professor at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

Back in the day he is responsible for releasing the Internets first Worm Virus. He wrote the Worm while he was a student at Cornell University. The Worm was originally designed to find out how bit the Internet was. It ended up replicating itself on a huge scale and caused 1000s of machines to slow down to point that they could not even be used.

His sentence was three years probation, 400 hours of community service and a $10,500 dollar fine.
